Diverse partnership bolsters its advocacy capacity with new hire
August 5, 2019 (Washington DC): The Clean Water for All Coalition – a broad group of local, regional, and national organizations working together to ensure commonsense protections for our water – proudly welcomes Ragini Kapadia as its new Coalition Director. Kapadia comes with over fifteen years of cross movement coalition building experience.
Most recently, Kapadia served as the Deputy National Organizing Director for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) where she built capacity for the ACLU’s electoral work, helped to increase affiliate engagement, developed volunteer leaders through ACLU People Power, an effort dedicated to defending civil liberties and civil rights across the country. She comes with over a decade of experience in organized labor having also previously served as the Acting Education Director for the Service Employees International Union and Senior Economic Analyst at the AFL-CIO Center for Green Jobs.
“Threats to our water are fueled by extreme weather and climate change, challenged by our crumbling infrastructure, amplified by racial and socio-economic disparities, and neglected by an administration and members of Congress that constantly threatens to cut federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency and to rollback federal clean water protections. This is a critical time for water,” said Ragini Kapadia. “I’m thrilled to join the Clean Water for All Coalition, to continue to bring together a coalition that is broad and diverse enough to build the political will and power we need to make progress on ensuring all Americans have access to safe and clean water.”
“Ragini Kapadia brings critical expertise in building up coalitions, which is so important at this challenging time for clean water,” said Jon Devine, Co-Chair of the Clean Water for All Coalition and Senior Attorney & Director of Federal Water Policy at National Resource Defense Council. “She will be a major asset as we band together to protect the waterways, water bodies, and wetlands all Americans rely on.
“Children – especially children from low-income communities and communities of color – are at increased risk because of policies advanced by the current administration and we need to ensure all Americans help to push back against these attacks,” stated Nsedu Obot Witherspoon, Executive Director of the Children’s Environmental Health Network. “That is why we are delighted to have Ragini Kapadia become the new Coalition Director for the Clean Water for All Coalition. She has a proven track record of successfully increasing citizens’ engagement in advocacy efforts.”
